5 Ways To Stay Motivated and Face Life Head On

Updated on October 25, 2015

Prayer and Meditation

Regular prayer and meditation helps us to recharge our mental and physical energy. The experience of knowing and feeling that there is something bigger than us and that we are just a minuscule part of this whole big entity really puts us in the right perspective that no problems or hardships is that big that we have to spend sleepless nights over it. Recent studies have shown that people who pray and meditate regularly are more relaxed and generally live longer than those who don't.

It is always important to remember to take it easy and that no challenge we face is so big that we have to be too stressed out. Meditation and prayer does wonders to help us realize this. Being calm also helps us to strengthen our focus on the problems and challenges ahead and can give us fresh new perspective that we never thought of.

Choose Your Battles Wisely

We have a limited energy and a limited time. It is wise to therefore think carefully where do we want to invest our limited energy and time. A lot of people waste their time and energy on trivial things that are not productive.

The culprit behind this is always a lack of focus. Try to focus on the important things by setting your priorities straight. If your priority is to make money spend your time and energy on pursuing it, don't waste time playing games and watching tv. No one will knock on your door and offer you a lucrative, six figure salary job.

Never procrastinate, if you have to do something that can improve your life, do it now. Setting your priorities will help you focus on what is important in life. Get a paper and pen and think things through. Find out what it is that you really have to focus on and do it.

Trying to face everything that comes your way even if it is not that important and that you can leave for later will only make you waste your energy and make you less productive. You will be more restless and tired and end up not reaching your goal because of it.

A snipper can do more injury than a blind man with a shotgun. The deadliest boxer on the ring is not one that can throw the most punch, even a kangaroo can do that, it's the one who can throw deadly punches in the right place at the right time. How many boxers have been knocked out simply because of one good perfectly timed punch?

"Choose your battles wisely. After all, life isn't measured by how many times you stood up to fight. It's not winning battles that makes you happy, but it's how many times you turned away and chose to look into a better direction. Life is too short to spend it on warring. Fight only the most, most, most important ones, let the rest go.”

Hang Out With Like Minded People

This is one point that many people seem to ignore and yet it is very crucial. Ask yourself this: who was Steve Jobs hanging out with in his parents's garage? Who was Jimi Hendrix hanging out with when he was practicing guitar. Look around you and your social circle, are they conducive to motivate you?

There was a time when I considered myself to be a very good and motivated salesman, until a new person came in and I had to go out of town with him to introduce him to our customers. Needless to say, we spent plenty of time together on the road.

I noticed that he was a very negative person, always blamed the customers and talked bad behind their back whenever they did not give any order to us. I really did not like this attitude, but what's bad was that I too was starting to become like him. He was like this sponge that sucked all the positive energy from me.

I decided after our trip that I wanted to have as little to do with him as possible and slowly gained my momentum back. I was surely more careful after that, and made sure I avoided negative people like they were the plague.

Move On

There will be times when you will go through a bad phase, someone betrayed you, you had a big fight with your loved one, a person close to you passed away. These things can really influence you and drain your energy.

The best way is to be able to move on in life as quickly as possible. Life goes on, even if the people close to you have decided to choose a different path. Make peace with them and move on. Always remember that an end is nothing but a new beginning.

Never be stuck in the moment, everything changes and nothing is permanent. The great life you are living right now might not be there tomorrow, likewise, the miserable life you are living now might be over tomorrow. Anything is possible, so never be attached to a particular thing or person or situation. There are no guarantees in life.

Set Realistic Expectations

Hubpages is a very good example of this. A lot people sign up in Hubpages expecting to make $1000/month at one go, it is just not possible. When they see they haven't earned a dime for a month they straight away brush it off and go find something else and set another unrealistic expectation.

The best way to be good at something is to set realistic expectations. You can have big dreams, but you have to go at it one small step at a time, there are no shortcuts in life. Thinking that the mango tree is going to come up one day after you plant mango seeds is just going to dissapoint you and all you energy will drain.

The main problem is we are living in a world where we want everything instant. Instant Gratification is the name of the game nowadays. No one wants to take their time. This is a big reason why we have so much failure and disappointment, because somethings cannot be instant. You have to work hard to achieve your dreams, and setting realistic expectations helps you to stay motivated.

If you align expectations with reality, you will never be disappointed.
